Upsilon Phi Upsilon Fraternity Inc.
(Delta Chapter)

Since 1990, our great fraternity has changed the lives of many through serving the community, and committing ourselves to giving back voluntarily. Through financial support, we are participating in the research of Autism. We are also being environmentally conscious by “Going Green”. Along with numerous programs for students, we have scholarships to reward their achievements.Again, we invite you to explore our genuine Brotherhood, Leadership, and Service to the community.
We stand to promote a more unified and efficient relationship among men; to uphold a love of life through social involvement; cultural growth, and community leadership; to advance brotherly love; to ignite the fraternal spirit of unity; to encourage and necessitate the purpose of personal excellence; to aid the next generation in the transition to manhood; to preserve the purity of women; to serve and shield the inviolability of the family; and above all; establish faith and trust in God almighty through Jesus Christ.
Wednesday, March 21, 1990 was the day that seven creative and talented men started a brotherhood. These seven men all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, had a vision of obtaining unity among all mankind. Germaine Jacobs, Marlon Freeman, Walter L. Harrison, Arthur Brown, Kenyon Johnson, Chedrick Golphin, and Earl Jones wanted to attain a unique fraternity that would be service driven in the community. Southern University was the first chapter established in Baton Rouge. The name was constitutionally changed from U Phi U to official Greek letters Upsilon Phi Upsilon in the spring of 1995. Even though the Southern University National Pan Hellenic Council asked the organization to become affiliated, the founders refused… this would destroy the chance to have anyone in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity Inc. freely joining Upsilon Phi Upsilon Fraternity Inc.. Because of that decision made by the founders earlier in the fraternity's existence, we now have active members in Upsilon Phi Upsilon that are also members of the NPHC. Unity….. that is what we are striving for as well as living by the highest ethical standards and rendering unselfish service to make a better community we live in.
The success of this organization was brought on by the first pledge class of Alpha Chapter. Spring 1992 was the birth of “Death Row”. Darrow G. Fields, Jr., Andrea T. Bowman, Avery F. Jack, Eugene Shrosphire, Jr., Terrance M. Williams, Michael K. Newton, Jonnon J. Vessel and Darrick M. Nash. These men were responsible for the Charter at Southern University and growth of other chapter throughout Louisiana and Mississippi. There are 15 undergraduate chapter spread across Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi with 2 graduate chapters. This fraternity is growing at an exponential rate with over 1,500 members. Upsilon Phi Upsilon was incorporated under the laws of the State of Louisiana on May 31, 2001.
Upsilon Phi Upsilon has 5 National Community Service Initiatives all striving to make the community at large aware of important issues at hand. Project “U” Can Read which is to motivate young kids in the local schools and community to read and comprehend more. Dollars & "Sense" which is design to educate people on how to make money, manage money, budget money, invest money, and save money. Autism Awareness is another avenue that Upsilon Phi Upsilon is involved in by supporting and researching children with autism and creating an Awareness Campaign. Unique Educator is a program to show appreciation to the teachers that put in a little extra time to reach the students, making sure they are successful. We also have a foundation called the “Unity Foundation” to raise funds for scholarships and other big endeavors to help the community.
